I'm with those who laugh at the "higher Nickel content". Go over on the FEbig block forum on Network54. There's a member there who has Ford's records pertaining to block casting. Name's Dave Shoe. Ask him about it. The main reason for not increasing the nickel content relates to machining costs. More nickel = harder alloy = more tool replacement = higher production costs. Want a Mex block without paying the premium ? Look for a D8VE casting. Same block, but minus the bigger main caps.
450 hp 347 I would take a trip to your nearest Ford dealer and buy a Motorsport Block... why chance wasting all that money it's going to take to make and keep 450hp together on a old factory block, you will be way ahead of the game...
then there are guys out there using 5.0 rollor blocks... who knows when they are going to split in half???
and on that rollor cam install in an older non-rollor block.. you can run any rollor cam you want with the H-link rollor lifters, you don't need a Small Base Circle Cam.
The only time you need a SBCC is when you are trying to use stock rollor lifters in a non-rollor block. The rollor blocks have taller lifter bores then a non-rollor so the lifters need to be deep in the lifter bores to get the oil they need, so they cut the cam smaller to allow the lifters to drop lower into the bores.
get the H-link lifters and any rollor cam you want.
