I want to put a 4bt cummins in my 1983 ford f 150 4x4
i posted something about this earlier and didnt really get what i was looking for
i will get onr from a ford chasis vehicle
i want to know if i will need an adapter plate and how hard it will be ..
right now my ford is a 302 and not sure what kind of tranny it is .. but its a 4 speed manual and 1st is a granny
where can you find 4bt's?
will i need a oil pan?
should everything hook up like the gauges and fuel lines?
if you could just give me a summary on what i am looking at
Your'e looking at so much work and fabrication that'd be a lot easier to buy a Dodge with a Cummins in it. Unless you have very deep love for this truck, sell it and get a Dodge 3/4 or 1 ton with the Cummins because you're gonna sink so much money into this project that you'll never get the value out of it that you put into it.

How did you find out about this is the first place? I discovered this swap about a year ago, and have done plenty of research on it, and can tell you lots of stuff about it. But all you have to do is go to a google or yahoo search and type in 4bt swap, and you will get lots of info. One place that will tell you most everything you need to know is; http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=2
But don't just dive in there and start asking questions. They have plenty of frequently asked questions and stickies at the top of the forum that will tell you most everything you need to know, including auction places where you can buy a frito lay or bread truck with the engine in it.
Cummins had a re-power program for these bread trucks, and if you get a bread truck that has a Ford chassis, it will already have the adapter and even the trannny, and it will almost bolt in to a Ford pickup. They have chevy repowered trucks too, and these usually used the 400 turbo automatic. Most people hunt up a zf 5 speed that was behind a 351w and put it behind the 4bt.
Buy a Dodge cause its too hard, WTF are you smokin.
Adapter plate is no probelm at all, got them ready to go. Will have tou use a bit of a hybrid clutch but no problem there either. Dodge 6spd clutch with center in the disc for whatever splines you got. There may need to be a spacer for your input but you would have to do a couple measurements there to find that out and if you need one I can have one made for you, we do them for the ZF6 trannys. Motor mounts can be bought premade or you can make them. Gauges just put the sensor out of your gasser back in the 4b and hook them up to the Ford harness and your dash gauges work fine. If you want an intercooler just nab one out of a 99-03 7.3 and mount it and do a little pipe work.
Its not "hard" but will take alot of time and work. I would say about 60hrs or so.
