I've got 377630km on my F150 4.3 L and she is running out of steam. Never oil sprayed "her" just changed the oil ,plugs, and fixed what broke a lot of those. She just keeps running. Oh and she has the good old piston slap on cold mornings. Rust is taking its winning streak and a constant eng light on off
BUTT I need a new truck for work. I found a GMC 1500 ext. cab 8 ft box 04 and spent hr's on the gm site looking for reasons why I should not go that way. We truck drivers all have problems with our trucks. the GMC has the same "similar" beefs as we do. My problem is I don't like the look of the GMC truck, but I can't find a Ford. Should I wait and find a Ford or go with GMC.
I had 2 Chevy vans in the 70's and put over 250,000 "miles" on both. the 78 with the 450cu/in was the one i still love. i changed the oil every 5 K and did every thing I could to keep them going, but my ford is rusting out. the exhaust manifold flange bolts rust out, my back pass door is rusted out, my rear tail gate door is rust out.
What can be the difference between NORTH AMERICAN built trucks
you have over 300k miles on a FORD and you want to know if you should buy a Cheby? -------whats the rational here?
Hold on there brother, we are not sure this is totally a Ford. Last I checked, 4.3 liters were Cheby V-6. Are there no Ford dealers where you live? No one owns any Ford trucks that they want to private party sell? Post pics of the rust, I dont have that problem where I live and always find it interesting.

Seems to me that the "info" is straying a bit. Those "377630km" equal ~234130k miles-not "over 300k miles".
FORD F150's small motors are 4.2 L & 4.6 L, not a "4.3 L" to be found in the line up.
If you need a "truck for work" AND really "can't find a Ford" your options might be limited.
If you want a FORD & can wait, chances are mighty good you'll find an F150. My area is loaded w/used F150's for sale & in this economy Gas Guzzlers can be had on the cheap. It seems like there are a couple of F150's languishing on every lot. FORD has been making a million or more of these pickups annually. Its not as if they were rare & hard to find.
DMch's signature says his 98 F-150 is a 4.6. Give the man a little line here for a typo. I would hold out for another F-150 over a jimmy. Good luck looking!
I have a 95 F150 and in North Dakota they salt the crap out of the roads and I have kept it washed and it doesnt have one spec of rust on it anywhere, and its a winter vehicle.
Those are rusted right through, and the rusted out parts underneath are scary . The drivers door skin on the bottom is rusted off and the door shakes when you close it. Washing was once a week, but the last couple years summer only. I wish I had it oil sprayed every year.
DMch, thats crazy that it rusts out so quick, I would have guessed that you were one of those guys that doesnt wash it. (no offense ) I know a guy with 02 Chevy with rusted through fenders in the back since he doesnt wash it. its sad.
