1. My AC doesnt blow cold. The fan blower comes on yet no cold air when turned to the cold side of the temperature control.
2. The compressor makes a screeching/grinding noise while the engine is running. The inner portion can be spun by hand. Is that supposed to be locked up and spin with the pulley when the AC is engaged? I would suppose so but I am not at all familiar with the AC stuff.
I was thinking about replacing the clutch or compressor.
Any ideas? Is more info needed to give informed help?
Sounds like the clutch pulley bearing is failing. Don't let it go too long, I did and the pulley locked up which lead to the truck getting a ride home on a flatbed since the locked pulley keep the engine from cranking.
Plan on a pulley and hub, mine cost about $100 for the genuine Ford parts from site sponsor www.rockauto.com.
Before tearing into it, spin the compressor shaft (use a wrench if necessary) to check to see if the compressor shaft is binding (probably not). If the shaft turns with its normal resitance, the compressor is probably okay and you only need the pulley and hub.
