i always prefer the rears that are firm , and have a crack down the middle. ha ha it must still be happy hour....sorry for that. the 72 truck would be perfect if you want to keep the big lug pattern. adding rear disc is nice but cost a little to add on to the 72 .

This has turned into a cluster-you-know-what!!!

When we get it home we WILL figure it out and deal with it AND make it work!!!!

Talking Finally.....

Well as "fate" would have it...I've had enough of
begging people to sell me their T-bird-Cougar-Mark-8-or whatever IRS
setups for waaayyy too much...this past weekend found a local who was
more than happy (sort of) to part with a 9-inch rear end for almost nothing!

It's Home! It was advertised as a 1970 F100 unit but I'm not so sure...
I was told it has a3.50:1 gear but didn't know much else from the P.O.
They were gonna put it in a 1966 Mustang Fastback...
Cancelled by a heart-attack...-

Maybe youse' can help me figure it out...HERES THE SKINNY:

Flat Top (& bottom)
straight tubes (havent measured O.D. yet)
drain plug on lower pass side
2 1/2" wide brake shoes!
End of axle shafts have 2 holes & 1 dimple! (31 spline?)
Backing plate blots require a 3/4" socket to remove nut! (large bearing?)
Inside backing plate-to-plate is about 55 1/2"
Spring perch hole-to-hole is about 41"
Shock mounting center about 31"

Casting Numbers: C6A_
Date Code: 6F29

Some other numbers cast in the housing I dont recognize:

1_38
DIFF LL
6978

Some of the numbers are difficult to read...

4-bar stuff.

Rockher,

I am doing the 4-bar now. Shockwave 8007, universal triangulated 4-bar. Around $1200 including the mounts and a schrader valve kit to use shop air to begin with. Installing it with the 9". Check out my gallery for "August progress" to see what it looks like so far and find if you really want to do it.

Preliminary measurements of my set up, and plugging the numbers into a spreadsheet I found on the net, show my Anti-squat to be at 99.7% with 100% being totally neutral. Instant center comes out somewhere around 67" in front of the rear axle at about the level of the cab floor. Should handle well from all I have read so far.

So far the install has been relatively easy. Next step is the X-member to mount the shockwaves on. I am playing with the idea of adapting the sway bar from the front of the motor donor (86 E-250) to the back of my pickup. We'll see how that pans out.

Good buy, now forget the 4 link and keep it simple. Bolt it in like this, weld on some shock mounts and run it like you know what. For what its worth looks to be in better shape than mine was when i started. Check my link below and look at the 9 inch section of the site. I'm sure Dick will be along shortly to help ya with the numbers.

Lightbulb 9 install...

Still debating about the parellel 4-bar set-up...

...looks fairly straight forward...thanks for the heads-up!

I was just out in the garage looking at the casting numbers again

and a couple of 'em are a little "abused" to say the least...so I may have

gotten them wrong. Now a few of them sort of look like:

C6A_ might actually be C5A_

There is a group of numbers cast into a circle near the top of the

center section that look like 81875.

I guess I'll know more when I pull the center out...
