My power steering pump is now whineing like its about to explode. Seemed before to have a small leak, as I would have to add fluid when I heard it whine a little hear and there. Got in yesturday and it sounded like there was no fluid in it, checked it and it was down a little but not too bad, so filled it up and still whined. Tryed flushing it and didnt help either. Is it time for a new pump? and if so is there any write ups on how to change it out? Like doing work to my own truck but never changed out a ps pump, how hard is it? Most of the truck is in my sig but just in case. 02 f-250 7.3L psd 4wd crew cab.
They are simple to change. Go to autozoo and get (barrow-rent whatever they call it) a power steering puller and installer. Take the belt off disconnect the hoses and install the new one. You will need to bleed it once you have it all hooked back up.
Sounds simple. I was going to get a ps pump from advanced auto parts, is this ok or should I look somewhere else. They have a lifetime warranty and only $70 so I figured why not. They also rent the tool so it would all be in one place. Thanks for the help so far.
I got mine from Autozoo but they had to order it. Get the one that has the reservoir on it. I think its like 10 dollars more but saves you hunderes of headaches.
