Well, I've finally manged to get everything lined up and I'm going to be making the road trip over to the Albany NY area to pick up my new (1957) utility bed for my F-3 project. I'm hoping for good weather and clear roads, if all goes as planned I'll be on the road thursday afternoon and have about a 9 to 10 hour drive each way.. but it will be well worth it

The utility bed
Was this utility bed originally painted Bell Telephone Green? It looks exactly like the type of utility bed (installed on a chassis, the vehicle was once refered to as a "cabinet truck") used by phone companies from the 1930's thru the 1950's.
iron dragon, don't know if we can come through with good weather in the albany area. mohawk valley north we are getting 6 to 12" of wet snow into wed. AM. thurs supposed to be clear and cold with another storm coming friday. don't know which routes you take, but check the weather for a southern route (such as I-88 from binghamton) it MAY be better (don't want to be responsible for steering you into freezing rain, etc.). good luck, hope the captial district treats you well. dick r.

Numbers, I have only limited information about this bed, but as far as I know it is an original telephone utility bed. What I do know is that it was made by Highway Trailer Co. in Edgerton, Wisconson and is dated 1957. I'll hopefully be able to get more information after I pick it up and can look it over in detail.

A friend has a 1938 Ford "cabinet truck" with this exact same body restored to original, complete with the "Associated Telephone Co." markings. Associated is better known today as AT&T.
What you have found was once commonplace, but today is rare, rarer, rarest.

Very few were saved.
I know full well what I found, and to be honest I feel like I'm stealing it from the guy, but hey I won it fair and square on Epay (although after the gas I'll spend getting it, it will come out more even).
I'm waiting until I pick it up and get it home before I make any decisons about what I'm going to do with it modification wise. I think I want to keep it as original as possible, with only some minor reorganizing of the interior drawers, adding F-3 fenders, and possibly lengthing it to 8ft if I can do so without destroying it.
