I'm looking for info on shocks for my 1999 F250 2WD CC (V10). I use this truck exclusively for towing 5th wheel and occasionally boat. It is ALWAYS highway driven. The ride has become harsh and just turning over 100K miles I think its time for shocks (new tires last summer). Price matters for our household so I'm looking for the best value AND where to buy. I don't need overkill, just a good shock that will last me for the next several years. The truck gets about 8K miles per year.
This forum has become the first place I go for info on my Ford vehicles. Because of info I've gotten here (over just the past year) I've fixed door lock actuators, blend motors, transmission range sensor, power mirrors, & advice on countless other issues. It has saved me a bunch of money. Thanks to all for sharing your knowledge!!!
you'll find the bilsteins are the pick of shock around here on this forum but i strayed away from them, not because they were a bad shock, actually a great shock but i needed a set asap and didn't feel like ordering. so i went with the Gabriel Max Controls from Autozone for 60 for the up front pair and 55 a pair in the rear.
comes with the boot already on them, ready to go and they look better since they are silver and black vs blue and yellow of bilsteins... as for the ride, it is about equal to the blisteins in my opinion. they do good in towing also stopped most of the "bounce" (about 95%) when i have my travel trailer on there and makes it feel more stable. so a little cheaper and just a good performance i think they are worth it, was afraid since they were Gabriels but they are their top of the line so i figured i would try them. been impressed so far.
