The receiver antenna for both Sirius and GPS functions is located on the driver's side roof, about 3" toward the passenger side from the outer most clearance light. Looks a bit like a small hockey puck.
Well I don't have the navigation unit but have been researching and considering purchasing a factory unit from some of the available sources. They indicate the GPS receiver antenna is located under the cover of the instrument panel. I just checked the factory online service manual and it shows the GPS antenna for the factory Nav unit under the dash cover favoring the right side of the drivers instrument cluster.
I have factory Sirius Satellite Radio and that antenna is on my roof on the drivers side between the clearance lamps.
Not sure what this antenna is but assumed it was the GPS. My limited understanding is the antenna has to have an unobstructed view of the sky. This one would. The antenna on the roof is only for sat. (sirius) signal I believe.

That antenna looks exactly like the one they installed for my remote start.

I have the factory GPS system. I don't have anything on the roof or Window. My guess is its under the dash. I'll check it out and see were it is installed.
I had the Pioneer Avicz-2 Navigation installed in my truck and the antanae is in the corner of my dash by the defrost vents, it's about 1/2 the size of a cell phone.

Nope, I don't have satellite radio and my GPS antenna is above my rear view mirror.
Ok, well I also have remote start so I bow to the one with a greater knowledge than I. I didn't even think about that possibility. I'm one of these people that if everything works like it's suppose to, I don't need anymore information. Thanks for the clarification jr, I owe you a beer. C.

the GPS antena is located under the instrument dash cover in the center. GPS atenas do not need a clear view of the sky they use radio waves which go through plastic.
Also once you install the GPS head unit and hook it up you will have to take the truck to the dealer to have it flashed because the GPS will not work just by pluging it in. It works with your vin and if they don't match guess what you are out of gas... Just an FYI
So what is the verdict? Can I buy a used one on ebay and install it into my '08? I do have Sirius on the truck.
It will work the SAT Mod just plugs into the new nav headset. All you need after that is to take it to the dealer and have them reflash it, I undertsand the reflash is like $200 bones, plus the GPS antena is another $90. So you should factor that in when biding on the unit, it just may be more cost effective to go after market. Once reflashed the nav and Sat will work. let us know how it goes
