I posted this in the 'van' forum but no replies after 20 views. Thought i'd try here.
I am working on a 69 E200 with a 302/3 speed combo. If i'm not mistaken the shifter should operate in a standard 'H' pattern? All the shifter does is moves up and down 'roof to floor pans'. It won't move forwards or backwards to move into the other 2 gears. I don't have much experience with 3 speeds and want to see if this old girl is still working. Any ideas? Thanks.
It could be any number of things. First is, if there isn't a spring-loaded feel when you pull it up to the 1st-Rev position, your spring is gone or broken. The next thing to do is climb under there and look at the linkage at the base of the steering column. There is a fitting there that anchors the shaft that moves the levers, and it can pop off if the nut loosens. (See https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...e-problem.html ) Follow all the links to the trans, make sure they are all connected.
