Hey guys, Was wondering; when you go to fill up will you go to a station that still had LSD to fill up instead of a station that had ULSD? Are the benefits of using a higher sulfur fuel on these older engines great enough to make it worth while? Are there any benefits to ULSD over LSD? Just something to discuss. Feel free to add your own
I've heard that the LSD has some sort of lubricating properties to it, but I'm not sure about that. My old man's 06 DRW 350 w/service body runs on whatever we throw into it without complaining. No additives in the fuel. 12,000 miles or so on it now and we've done some VERY heavy towing with it. (To the point where DOT might not like it very much)
USLD for the environment...as I don't mind needing to add the additives that I was already adding for improved power/mpg anyway. However, my choice is the WVO Bio that I run...at an ever-increasing percentage as fuel prices continue to climb.
The only thing that prevents my brewing my own fuel, is the lack of a continuous source of waste stock. My local Bio source is having one heck of a time getting enough waste oil to keep up with the demand from just his regular customers. In fact, I had to make 4 trips to his station to finally get 68 gallons...and he only had 280 gallons available.
LSD is not avalible in my area no more it seems just the USLD that doesn't provide enough lubrication. Also they seem to deteriate 0-rings alot faster outside of not lubricating the engine. Any chance you get get the LSD or even better run Biodiesel even if it is just a slight blend it provides alot of lubrication.
As of October of last year every US fuel station became required to sell only ULSD. If you happen to come across a LSD pump you should pass it up....it has been sitting in the barrell for a very long time.
I just found a Shell right near my house that has LSD and I was wondering if it is worthwhile to pay a little extra for it. They aren't charging more because they have it, they just are in a good location right off the beltway so all their prices are a little higher.
I think that LSD has better lubricating properties. That isn't even an issue. The process to get it down below 15ppm for ULSD dries the fuel out so much that it loses a bunch of lubricity. I just want to know if it's worth 10 cents (or more) more a gallon per fill-up?

If you are just reading it on the pump it could be they haven't updated the sticker. I know a local fuel station that has the LSD sticker but the owner fills up his 08 SD there.
the station I go to just starte selling LSD again. They went from mobile ownership to citgo. . . and for a while they didn't even have any ULSD. I think its because they ran out though. But LSD is what goes in my truck.

Did I just read that you patronize Citgo? Wow, some patriot you are!!

I guess I'm a little confused. . . is there something I should know about citgo? I just know they are the only local station with LSD. . . so they get my service. Hmmm, I guess if I were from the 60's that might sound a little bad

It's totally owned and controlled by that Hitler wannabee Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela. When Citgos sales started to plummet he bought up all of the Petro Express's, but now that has been exposed. I've seen totally empty Citgo fuel lanes while right across the steet folks will be waiting to fill up at say a Hess, or Shell.
