Possibilities?

Dang it - if my Effie 250 didn't up went and died on me!

2003 7.3 PSD - with 70K miles.

Driving like a charm....parked her up, and went inside!

Came out to get get Pizza for dinner to save "she who mistakenly thinks she wears the pants" from having to cook...and woah nelly!

On comes the yellow service engine soon light! It's is running worse than a chaff cutter - and lotts of smoke - mostly whiteish...no power at all, feels like only running on about 4 outta 8 cyclinders maybe.

I've done the last 3 x 3000 mile services myself, Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic 15-W-40, new filter every time. New air filter too. Only thing I didin't do was a fuel filter - which i should have done I guess.

According to the book, the last fuel filter was done at 55,000 miles or 15,000 miles ago.

I've ordered online a auto ingenuity software package and USB cable to be able to pull the codes and see whats wrong - but likely that won't arrive air mail for a few weeks yet.

Any wild guesses what I might be loking at here?

UVCH plug or chafing issue?

Something as simple as maybe a blocked fuel filter?....
I drained the fuel filter and no water came out.

I have a spare CPS (the blue IH one) but couldn't swap it out - just could not get a 10mm socket on that nut - mines RH drive and the steering arm and fluid lines to transmission etc restrict access badly - it isn't a 10 minute job as claimed on the LH drive where you don't have the steering arm in the way!

I was 4 hours at it and didn't manage to get the nut more than 1/8th of a turn with a 10mm ring spanner...before giving up in sheer frustration & covered in grease.

What else might throw a yellow check engine light?

The manual says something about faulty emissions control sensor & catalytic converter?

Where / How does one check this emissions control sensor to see if it is stuck / faulty?

It's drivin me nuts not having the vehicle running - no Ford dealers within 500 miles in any direction....cost me $330 Pacific Peso's to have it trucked on a tilt tray 25 miles to my diesel fitters yard.

He's waiting on me to get the software before we tackle it.

I have a very expensive $2880, Ford 4 year Extended warranty, who say they will pay the Ford Book hours on whatever repair my diesel fitter does since there are no Ford dealers to fix it locally, however they won't cover the trucking or software bill to diagnose the fault codes.

The software was over $400....so, with the trucking cost as well - I am already out of pocket almost a gorilla - and don't even know what is wrong with it yet!

And FORD wonder why they are going broke!
Any suggestions greatfully received - thanks in advance.
Ohh also any idea where I can determine what the codes mean once I do pull them?

Cheers!

I'm willing to bet on UVCH, do a search on it, there's a very easy way to find out. if I was at home I'd post the link for you.

Sounds like the UVCH to me too. You could try unplugging one side and see if the engine gets worse or if it makes no difference at all to isolate which side.

You can also unplug the 9 pin connector at the valve cover and ohm the pins.

To check the harness ohm it at the Valve cover connector on the outside.

G G I I C I I G G

G=Glow Plug +
I = Injector +
C= Injector Common

***The injectors fire with a 115VDC signal from the IDM do not pierce to wires to test.***

Ohm between "I" and "C" to test the injectors, should be less than 5.0 Ohms

To check glow plugs Ohm between "G" and battery ground should be between 0.1 and 2.0 Ohms

Thank You

Thank You ever so much for that info.

I will check that out next time I am in town, I will take a meter with me and check the UVCH harness pins at the outside connector.

I am due to go to town soon and hopefully the software will have arrived by then so I can pull codes as well.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Sorry, forgot to include that with your other question. http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/dtc.html

The AE will give you the code and a description of what the code means or which part is affected.
