the plates

I have the plates that make it so you can have 351c intake on a 400 my question is what order does it go. I have the block then i put some gasket maker between the block and the tray and then i put gasket maker on the other side and put the plates on that and then on the other side of that i put more gasket maker and the 351c intake manifold. Is that the order that it should be? because i did all that and i had a gap between the block and the plates tom ake it so i got water all threw my motor so whats the deal do the plates really work and if so is it worth it or should i say heck with it and go with a 351m intake

ps i have 351c 4v heads if that makes any difference

thanks nate

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Jul-02 AT 02:58 PM (EST)]i'm planning the same thing - i have the heads, and a used set of plates (with no bolts or instructions). i'm picking up an old 400 bronco motor tomorrow. haven't got an intake yet - i'm considering the torker, OR maybe a parker funnel-web with their port stuffers to match the intake... the torker is MUCH cheaper though! any tips? i'd be interested to read your combo & intended usage.

i always thought cleveland intakes were dry... i'm glad you asked this question - hopefully someone can answer it for us, and maybe explain why 4v heads would have water on the intake side, and the purpose of that weird 351M/400 water crossover too!

Do NOT use the tin gasket when installing the plates.
Get some felpro gaskets for the intake and use Silacon sealer on the ends to fill the gap. make sure to get al the way under the heads under the plates to or you could get a vacume leak.

And how I install the plates are light coat of silacon sealer on the headside then bolt on plates. port match to gaskets ...install head on motor.

well i guess i mest up because i used the 351/400 windage try i think youd call it and used some gasker maker it came in a tube and you needed a calking gun to apply it i guess it was good stuff cause it cost me enough and thats what they recommened at the parts store. Because i want to use the 351c intake cause its sooo much better then the sally 351m one and i want my motor to turn. Well my project is now p ushed back a year because my motor is junk. I took it to someone to have it do all the little stuff and he runid my motor left the plugs out and the intake off so water got all threw it so now i gotta go after the guy for my $ but i doubt ill get it oh well costly lesson.. pushs my project back a lot oh well
