3 Inch Level kits

There seems to be a concensus that installing a 3 inch level kit places too much angulation on the ball joints and could lead to premature failure. However, there seems to be a number of owners who have these kits installed. I would like to get some input from those who have real world experience with 3 inch kits. I have also been told that, taller and/or wider tires may stress the ball joints as much or more than a lift kit. Any input will be welcome.

I have a 3 inch installed on my truck... I did it over the weekend. Yes, there are some major stress on the joints. Check out my gallery and there are pics.

I mean I am sure they won't last as long as they would if I left the stock suspension alone but I am willing to risk it for the look and the ability to clear 35's

Don't see why you'd want a 3" leveling kit when 2.5" AS leveling kits make the truck perfectly level.

Like I said, I just got the truck so I know NOTHING about which one thing is better than another to add to the truck

is there a difference other than the 6 inches between the two?

Is there anyone else out there who has any long term experience with a 3 inch leveling kit?

I put the the 3" leveling kit on my 04 fx4 at about 42,000 miles i got 50,800 now and dont notice any problems with mine. One thing i did notice upon installation. I took all kinds of pre-install measurements before i started mostly to insure i got the toe set up right. the one big difference is that by lifting it that much it does narrow the overall outside tire to outside tire track. it brings them in about 1" per side. I would say without checking my stats on it. and it does get the tire real close to the upper ball joint but i dont see any rubbing issues. I also installed the 1 1/2 rear add a leaf. I like the look you can check my gallery pics. Good luck with yours.

Did you notice any change in the ride after the add a leafs? What brand did you use? I was considering this very same combination because I have a Lear cap coming and figured the the add a leaf would be a better way to offset the additional weight in the back than blocks.

With a 1.5" add a leaf and the 2.5" or 3" leveling kit, then the rear would be about
1" higher. Which isn't very noticable, and is a good thing if you ever tow a little something so when towing you won't have the squated look.

The 1-1/2 add a leaf definately stiffened the ride up. They give you an extra 900 lbs. so your gonna feel it. If your on rough roads you will get alot of spring bounce the back end definately will jump around the corners. But hey Im a country boy and I think a truck ought to ride like a truck. if im lookin for soft ride I take my wifes Explorer.
