hey all. i recently had to replace the brake line to my 1999 sd 4x4 5.4l. i replaced it from basiclly the master cyclinder to the back drivers side rear on the truck. i had to drop the gas tank to even get to the line because it was inside the frame rail. but anywho, i finished the brake line, bolted in the gas tank again, and try to fire it up and nothing.........i did take the negative terminal off the battery when i was doing all this so i didnt have a spark and catch my garage on fire. so i turn the key and i just hear one click and nothing....the lights are bright, the battery is new and doesnt seem dead. but when i turn the key to try to start it, it shuts down the blower to the heater and the raido shuts off. what the heck is happening??????!!!! any help would be great guys. thanks--ryan
sounds like a battery connection to me too!but next time i would just push a new brake line in between the fuel tank and frame, theres no reason to drop the tank!
thanks, im gonna have to recheck the battery connections again. i wanted to do a neat job and put the brake line back in those little clips. so its supported, not just shoved up there outta the way.
i checked the connections on the battery and cleaned them also. but still nothing. the battery is charged up also. do you think it might be the wires to the starter or something around that?
thank you cartmanea. i will try that. also is there a way i can jump the starter solenoid relay by using a screwdriver or a piece of wire?? how would i go about doing that?
You can jump either the relay on the fender 2 big terms together or at the starter the one from the battery large and the small one together. Don'r do the two big on the starter as said above.. Make sure key is off. Try one on the fender first behind the battery.
OK well heres the new scoop. i cleaned off all the wires on the soleniod and on he starter, all seem in decent shape now. but i heard something "clicking" in the fuse box inside the truck. so i listened and its coming from the bottom relay on the left hand side on the fuse box. does anyone know what that relay has to do with?!? theres 3 relays all in a row in the fuse box and its the bottom one thats clicking. i swapped a couple around and its still doing the same thing! so, bottom relay, what does that have to do with?????? thanks ryan
