Brake light problem - help

UPDATE 3-15 for those interested:
Problem found.
I removed the cowling covers from the steering column only to find that one of the connectors that goes to the turn signal multifunction switch has 2 metal contact inserts that pull slightly out of the connector shell - when the tilt wheel is pulled down. It's very clear to see that these two contacts are staying in the same relative place, while the connector shell moves with the wheel assembly.
A close inspection revealed that the tiny locking tabs that hold these metal contacts in the connector shell had broken, so there was nothing holding them in except a little friction, and their basic position in the steering column.
I have a new connector with pigtail ordered from a dealer that I hope to pick up and install on Monday. This should clear things up for good.
