Hello everyone! I have A 2005 F-250 Diesel with an AUTOMATIC transmission.
Today I pulled my travel trailer for the first time and while I was waiting in a traffic light I switched my truck into third gear. When the light turned green and I tried to start off it seems that the truck was trying to start off in third gear and not in first. Then I stopped again and tried to start off in 2nd gear and again it did not start from first and then shift into 2nd and stay. Is this a normal operation for the Super Duty or is there something wrong? Please note the truck is stock with no chip or programmer. Hope some one can help.
Thanks Jason
That's normal. Ford transmissions will operate only in the gear selected when they are in 3 or 2. They won't start in 1 and shift up to the selected gear. This gives the driver more control over the trans. If you drive on slippery surfaces starting in 2 or 3 can get you going a lot better than 1.
