Hello,
I have a 2000 F350 4x4 PSD, that i bought about a month ago. It is equipped with the electronic shift on the fly 4 wheel drive. The hubs therefore have 2 positions, auto and lock. The 4x4 is not working while the hub is in the auto position. The reason I realized this is because I was pulling my boat out of the ramp this weekend, and lets just say it did not come out easy. I got home took off the tires and the cap over the hubs to be able to access the different positions. I then put the hubs on lock, and noticed that it really locked making the 4x4 work. To make a long story short, the auto 4x4 is not working. I saw that there are 2 fuses and 2 relays related to this. The 2 fuses are fine, im going to get 2 new relays to see if the relays are the problem. I just want to know if anyone has encountered this problem, what else could it be. Im just relying on the owners manual to check the fuses and relays.
Thanks
i have seen ALOT of posts llike this one.searching because i am haveing a problem with my 4x4 as well.(not the vaccum tho.) but as far as i have seen the vaccum lines are the culprit 99% of the time. when you put it in 4x4 does the light stay on? and if not does your AC go into defrost mode? when there is a vac leak in our trucks it goes into defrost mode automaticly.so that would be a sign.another problem i seen a few times is the 4wd vaccum solinoid/module that the vac lines go to.i have no pics but hopefully someone will chime in who may have some.my truck i havnt a clue whats up.with the switch in 2wd the lo range light stays on.....and locked. but if you push the gas it unlocks and light goes out.let off the gas back on.think mine is the shift motor.but thats jus my input..... i would say check your vac lines first as it is the cheapest and most common failure.
yes my 4x4 light stays on....like i said before, i bought the truck less than a month ago and since ive had it I know for sure that there is a problem with the ac vac lines cuz the air goes into defrost mode whenever it wants. I dont know if those are the same lines ur talking about. Im going to check now, if when i change to 4x4 if that makes the air go to defrost.
I agree that if anyone has any pictures it would be great....since i am new to this and dont know much under the hood.
Thank you guys.....I just checked, and my air conditioning does go to defrost when i switch to 4x4. I checked the lines and i saw the problem, they are torn and one of them is not even connected. I then put my hand on the suction and switched to 4x4, and the air stayed normal. So tomorrow im going to buy new hoses, connect them and see if it works. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with the hubs. I let you know what happens.
cool man im glad to help.and i know what u mean about new to being under the hood........i had a dodge ram...currently deployed to iraq and got my truck on leave had it shipped to me.got there after i left.....so i have never seen the truck.....and never had a ford so everything is new to me.all i learned was on this site mostly and a lil from the haynes and chilton manuals i had sent to me.that will give u an idea of the knowledge on this site
hey guys im new here and insted of starting a new thread i figured i;d just post in here.. i have a 2006 F350 with a 6.0L and the other day i backed out of my house and my 4x4 was on. i turned it off and went on m way. when i got to turn it back on i got nothing. no light nothing. i checked the fuses and there all fine.. has anyone come across a problem like this??
note when i turn the key on the low range and 4x4 lights light on on the cluster when it does a self check..if anyone has any info pls let me know thanks
I have the same problem. I got stuck in a ditch in a snow storm last. The front tires wouldnt spin when I have the hubs on auto, but worked when I turned it to lock. My 4x4 light stays on and my ac vents work fine.
well it doesnt make a diff if i lock the hubs or not cause my transfercase isnt shifting in to 4H. like nothing happens when i turn the switch..i think the 4x4 gem modual just told to go play hide and go F**k myself
