Changing Fluid in E4OD

I'm planning on changing the fluid in my 94 F150 with and E4OD and was wondering what fluid to use and how much of it. Im just dropping the pan and changing the filter. I couldn't find any of this info in the manual. Also would it be ok to use synthetic ATF with a truck that has 123,000 miles? Thanks in advance your input will be appreciated.

Actually the Ford ATF fluid works well. You can also drain the torque converter (without dropping the transmission) as well. Pull the rubber plug at the bottom of the bell housing and turn the crank pulley until you see the drain plug. Remove it and let it drain...it'll take a little time to drain the converter, so feel free to take a break (sandwich and cold beverage ). Draining the pan and converter will get most of the old trans fluid out. Just remember to have enough trans fluid to put back in it; I'd say 14-16 quarts at least. And you can always take the un-used containers back for a refund.

The E4OD holds more than 14-16 quarts.

A better way to change the fluid is here:
