very strange

Strange thing happened to my father in law's 2003 f-150. When he started the truck and the truck was running the starter solenoid kept pulling in like somebody kept turning the key to the start position. As long as we pulled off the small wire that pulls the solenoid in everything was fine, but hook the wire back up and the starter pulls in not constantly but 2 or 3 times a minute. Any ideas?

old truck-- when you turned the key you put 12 volts to the "little wire" on the solenoid and made it pull in... i would guess on the newere trucks there might be a relay in the fuse box on the drivers fender well that goes between the switch and the solenoid???????? maybe its stuck.

I have had solenoids stick before bet never "pulse" like that that is very strange. I am with Steve though maybe it is a relay if not I would look into a short.
