I looked at a 78 bronco today, not for sale, just sitting in some guys yard. He took my number and is going to call me if he decides to sell it, but it had no back window I think its just rolled down but are they all electric? how hard are they to fix? expensive?
Yes they all are electric thats the only way they came . As far a fix there are many causes not to work . Some are latch safety switches not closed , harness at tail gate hinge area worn or brittle causing broken wires , bad motor , bad motor clutch rollers in motor. All are easy to fix.
Just to let you know they are a real bad spot for rusting out. Could be the frames are all falling apart inside as well and the window is jamming . You can still find the parts but it might be a little more work than a quick cheap fix
well he will sell it but he wants alot more than its worth, he laughed at my offer of 300, although alittle low, its not worth much more than that, it looks like its been rolled, its pretty cancerous, no glass in the drivers door, back window rolled down or gone and the interior is packed with pvc pipe and rain gutter spouts, its rank in there. It also hasn't been run in two years and supposidly parked because the starter went out, There are many other fish in the sea...
Yeah...From what you describe, your offer was generous. Put $300 cash money in his face, and if he laughs again tell him exactly where he and his truck can go.
never did say, like you said $300 was pretty generous, and turns out he doesn't own it, but he knows the guy who does... whatever, crazy trailer trash...
It's sad to hear about one of those going to waste like that... I love the 78's and 79's and it's even more addicting since they only made that type for 2 years... On the other hand, I have a guy near me that is selling a 1980 for $700 through Craigslist... It runs and he claims the only problem is the carb bogs down when you give it too much gas... I'd jump on it, but my driveway and dance card are too full already...
My wife knows that one day we'll have the 5 car garage with a bunch of Broncos in various states of repair/build-up.... I've been working on her for a few years so she can get used to the idea...
Or you could be lucky like me and have a wife that loves Broncos more than I do and wants to sells her car so she can have one too. Then buy a Centurion for long trips and another bronco to build up for off roading only. Not my ideas, but I sure don't mind putting them into action.
As for the '78, $300 is generous for the state it's in, but he probably knows that they were only made for 2 years and are not easy to come by so wants more for it. Although, if anyone is near Boise Idaho, there are two 78/79s here in the junk yard. About the only things wrong with them are the engines are missing and I think the tire has been pulled off of one for some axle pieces. Hurry and they'd be easy to put back together. I just don't have the $$ or space yet.
