I just bought some replacement door jamp switches (courtesy lamp) from NPD and they don't look like the ones that I took off my 77 F150. The contact button sticks out 1/2" farther than my original. The NPD p/n is F-13713-2 and is supposed to fit 73-79 F100-F350 trucks. I can't see how these would work sticking out a 1/2" further than the original. I do not have the doors on right now, so I do not have any way to test them. Has anyone run into this before? Picture link below:
The depth on the switches should be self adjusting, when you close the door on them
Not these new switches. The only thing that moves is the contact button itself the shiny brass piece you see in the picture does not slide in at all. I'm wondering if the old switches that came out of my truck are not the right ones for the truck. I started a frame-off restoration right after I bought it, so I don't know if they worked or not with the switches that came on it.
Thanks, For all your reply's. I have them all installed, but I'll have to wait till I get the doors back on to crush them down. Did the one's I took off look like the ones you folks took off?
i thought the same thing my old ones were real short compared to the new ones when i shut the door on the new ones the brass piece collapsed inside of the nut and the length was the same as the old ones

I just did this job last weekend. Yes your old ones look just like my old ones and your new ones look just like my new ones. You won't be able to adjust them yourself, it takes the force of the slamming of the door to knock them down. The reason they do this is because everybody's doors will be offset just a little differently. If they made the switches at one single size, then what might close for one guy's truck won't for another guy's truck. This is due to the cab flexing over the years, door mounting adjustments, hinge wear, etc.
