On Board Air

Ive been looking into on board air. I dont really want to use electric air compressor(s) and found some new York air compressors on E-bay. Does anyone know of a company or someone that made a bracket kit to put a second air compresson on our trucks?

The only spots i can see putting one is down next to the crank on the right side of the truck or if i found a smaller one about the size of our A/C compressor it might be able to mount on top of the HPOP Res.

Also Could on of our A/C compressors be used as and Air compressor?

Thanks
John

no one makes one, i have been wanting to put a york on my truck off the engine for a long time but with the intercooler plumbing theres just not enough room. i was lookin at a sanden compressor since its alot smaller size put you have to use an oiler on the air inlet since its not a true oiless like the york is. you could use one of our compressors for air but its gonna have to have a inlet oiler on it also. i have almost all the parts for a pto on my truck and think im gonna run a york off the pto.

the other thing i was looking into is oasis has there dc motor powered yorks which flow a ton of air but there over 1k i was thinkin about getting a 2400watt inverter and run a 1hp compressor off of it. which i can get a new compressor and inverter for about $600. i still havent decided which way im gonna run. i just have a pair of thomas 337's on the truck right now.

Thanks for the reply. Im about to put a intercooler on too and was thinking that a compressor would probly get in the way. I saw some york compressors that were about the size of our A/C compressors on ebay but they arnt on there anymore. I guess ill have to use a couple of electric compressor like the ones the air bagged trucks use and get a set of red tops.

odyssey makes a battery thats better suited for our trucks if ya have to have a gel cell than the optima. i just run the largest duralast gold's from autozone and they work awesome.

Who needs red tops!! 2250 CCA for $20 more than stock batteries

With the room constrains we have on engine compartment room especially after an IC install I am gonna go with a 100% duty cycle electric compressor.

I think im gunna go with the electric as well. Exspecialy sense that 800 dallor mount doesnt come with the compressor.

How big of tank do you think is needed to run some air tools and stuff? I was thinking two 5 gallon tanks but now that ive read up on it some one will probly be fine.

Thanks for the help

I would think 1 5 gallon would be plenty. You won't be changing 20 tires one right after another but just make sure if you plan to use air tools or air up large tires to get a compressor with 100% duty cycle. that means its designed to run constant if needed. Many compressors are 20-30% and won't last using air tools.

Yes they do but it will displace the alternator or AC on our trucks. Completely different setups.

i am in the middle of re-building my OBA system only this time i will be running a hydraulic motor off of the powersteering pump. the hydro motor will then run a compressor head and that will fill my OBA system. all i have to do now is get a couple of hydraulic hoses made up to run to the center of the truck to unclutter the engine bay
