2001 Ranger problem.....

Engine shakes at idle a bit, got P0171 code. Engine revs up well, but when I floor a gas (kick down mode) I got missfire.

Suggest vac. leak, the quation is what is the usual for 4.0 sohc points of leak, small o-rings are ok. Mat it is time to replace air intake?

When was the last time you did a tune up?

A miss fireing plug can also generate that code.

in december, 2007. Plugs are OK too. I'm nearly sure in vac. leak, but how to learn where.... I need vac. leak detector.

Well, how to clean MAF correctly?

connect a vacuam guage, and check the reading. Use a propane sniffer to locate the leak.

Pablo, if you have a handhelp propane bottle (plumbing burner), connect a section of rubber hose to the pipe after the valve, turn on the propane flow (slow) and aim the open end of hose at the potential leaking area, if there is a vacuam leak the RPM will increase.

Use in well ventilated area.

Of course a smoke generator can be used instead, but more investment($$$)

Ouh, with engines with MAP sensors ore Boost pressure sensors I had no problems related with MAF. Newer heavy trucks have MAF sensors.... to many problem... Just an example, MAF reads less air flow, EDC decrease power.... Well, but MAF works a bit faster.
