I'd measure this myself, but I don't have the 78 yet and this will decide on me buying it, maybe.... Is the frame on a 78 or a hi-boy (earlier one) the same width as a 67 F-250? If so, how close are the body mounts? I have a 2wd 67 w/ a good body and a possiable 78 F-250 that's a rust bucket, so... is it close or am I gonna have to fab some mounts? I think I heard up to 77.5 were narrower then the later trucks and if so was the 67 the same width as the 77.5 and below? Thanks guys.
I've got a 67 2wd, and a 72 2wd, when I got the 72 it had no rearend but the guy said it used to be a 9er, just out of curiosity I measured my 79 F-150 spring pad distance, and the spring difference on the 72, and they were way different, like 4 inches, I can only assume that means the frames are different.
Well I want to put this 67 body on a hi-boy frame, it has a divorced transfer case and all, but I was pretty sure there was no more highboy in 78, then ppl say the frame changed after 77.5, so I'm a little confused as to what I'm getting unless the cab was swapped onto this truck years and years ago, b/c the vin is a 78, plus it has a 400 in it, which also would make it a later drivetrain.
I'm pretty sure you need an early 77 or older frame for this swap. It's been about 10 yrs since I did mine so I'm not 100% sure. Mine is a 69 body on an early 77 frame. Cab bolted right on but had to fudge the bed forward an inch and drill new holes for it to look right.

There was a high boy in 78 I think, I've got a friend with a 78 with a 460, it's also the divorced case, I think but I'm not positive, that on the build date it's just a late mid 77 truck titled as a 78. If you've got the skills to fab up mounts if they're wrong, and the truck is cheap, do it.
Well I'm mostly worried about the cab bolting on to tell you the truth, I'm not real worried about the box since it'll never haul anything (I can fab that on), just has to "be" there (this is gonna be a pulling truck). So am I correct in my thinking that there is no such thing as a 78 highboy and this is most likely a 77.5 and below frame?
Just out of curiosity, fdude, do you really like your 300 I6? I noticed you have a little bit of mods done to it, and wondered if you know about Clifford Performance. They Have everything you need to make a 300 blow peoples minds.
Yup no more highboy in78. Mid 77 is was when the change was made to lower trucks/ friend off mine has a 77. One off the last highboys made. still uses this truck everyday. It would be just perfect for what your lookin for. It has a 460 in it too. He bought the truck new. Still looks nice. I dont think he would part with it though.. North off me in Ford counttry. There are alot off those old 78s around. Amazingly some are in [pretty descent shape. good luck on your truck build. Give the Wahoo guys a run for there money.
