Power steering

Is there any difference between the power steering pumps used on FE cars and trucks. (pump pressure?) Or can they just be swapped out? I am steering with a Bendix box. Up to what year truck can I use a pump from that will still work in my truck? Does it have to be prior to 76? I have an F250 with a 352.

As you have the wonderful Bendix box you need the correct bendix power steering pump. the later pumps are slipper type and will not provide correct high pressure to the box causing chatter and blown seals. Bendix boxes were used till 68 in trucks and cars.

Ford stopped using them for a reason.....

Thanks Garbz. After finding the the correct rebuild kit for that little some beach. (thanks again numbers) I have had good luck with the box. The pump has been screaming at me for a rebuild from day one. So I guess its time to find a reman.

Yep. need to be matched. the later ford box will survive some mix n match but not the Bendix.

If you rebuild the pump do a Tech article on it.
