I'd make it easy and start with a set of 351C-4V heads and intake with a set of manifold spacer/adapters from Price Automotive.

the wieand spacers are cheaper i think. a 750 carb or 850, a high duration cam. some block milling. talking to an engine builder will be best.

There are many ways to reach the power levels you want. It will depend on how it will be used and how much money you are willing to part with.
Are you looking for a daily driver on pump gas, weekend trips with some fuel additives, or a race car? How much can you spend?

Shaz this site it messed up on my comp and doesnt like me lol i just want a 500hp 400 that'll run on pump gas but still have the power to be a sleeper at the track you know? e-mail me at Entellijence(No Email Addresses In Posts!) ok thanx

p.s.

351 4V i've had experience with them..2V's are better in my opinion 4V's seem to have a thirst "quench" problem on the street

Hey shazam...do you got a recipe for a killer 400 that starts with an old, tired 351M and aussie heads? I would love to see it! Thanks in advance!

There is a lot of hype about these Aussie heads, but they take some work to get them to flow a lot. If 500HP is your goal, expect to pay about $1500. Powerheads claim theirs are good for up to 500HP.

I think the CHI 3V Aussie heads are a better investment. They are light and flow more CFM out of the box. Best price is about $1400 bare.

The best recipe for the street is displacement. I'm putting a 426 stroker motor together. It won't be a daily driver so I will run almost 11:1 compression using fuel additives or a pump gas/race fuel blend.

The short block doesn't cost much. A 351C 4V open chamber head and an iron 4V intake using intake spacers would cost the least.

Instead, I put most of the money in my heads. I got a fair price on a set of A3 heads. They are basically a high port plate version of the 4V heads except they are all aluminum. They came with all Cleveland 4V valve train parts, titanium valves, retainers, up to .700 valve lift. They should be good for 8000+ RPM, and ready to bolt on. I expect over 500HP.
