Spring codes for 80 - 86 trucks?

I am trying to locate front spring info on my '86 F250 Supercab 4x4. The truck is 8800lb GVW and the spring code is 73K. I'm not able to find any info for this code! Anyone care to update this decoder for eariler trucks??

Thanks!

The info I can gather says they were used on f250s from '81 to '94, 3" wide, 4 leafs per pack, and were 52 1/4" long. Was that what you were looking for?

Thanks for the info, that's a step in the right direction! Most aftermarket springs are listed by weight rating, i'm trying to find a replacment spring with the same rating...

Thanks for the tip, I took a look at NPD and they have the best catalog by far but I'm still at a loss with the spring code for my truck! Here are a few pics. At this point I'm looking to replace the front springs with an OEM equivilent. If that's not an option, I'll need a recomendation for a spring that will be compatable with the 2,450lb 5 leaf springs that I have in the back.

Wish I could help you there, I think it would best to ask numberdummy or mil1oin. I dont see them much in the '80-'86 forum so it might be best to send them an e-mail or pm.

The OP contacted me several days ago. The parts catalog sez that there are two types of spring codes: 2 digits or 4 digits. The OP's code is three digits (73K).

Yesterday, he sent me a link to this thread where his code is pictured. That wasn't any help, but the pic of the rear spring was. E0TA-AC8 was E0TZ-5560-A replaced by E3TZ-5560-R. The code for that spring is 3. That means the front spring code is 7.

7 is E0TZ-5310-S. The parts catalog sez the load rate is 2755 lbs., the capacity is 3850 lbs. E3TZ-5310-S is still available from Ford. I emailed him back with this info.

I still can't find out what the K from 73K means. Too many years have passed. Until this question, I hadn't looked up springs for a 1980's truck in over ten years.

Why I don't frequent the 1980's and later truck forums that much. Everything changed in 1980. In addition to the PITA spring charts, there are the dreaded computers with their gawd awful Calibration Codes (C/C). Emissions and some fuel related parts can only be found out by the C/C. There were over 800 different C/C's used from 1980/89.

It's very difficult to look up parts for trucks without the specific code, which was on a paper tag under the hood...and today is usually missing. One specific year/model/engine size might have as many as 30 C/C's!

Without the code, if someone needs a smog pump diverter valve, for example, I have to search thru all the codes listed comparing parts numbers. If they all match...that's fine, If they don't...

Hi Guys, I really appreciate your help, headache it is! Bill, sorry for the confusion, the pic of the spring PN is actually the front spring! To make matters worse, closer inspection has revieled that the PO added a leaf to the front and rear springs. I have 5 leaves in the back and 3 in the front...

What do you guys thingk of 2775lb rated spring in the front and 2450 in the rear, does that sound like a decent combo?

Ai Yi Yi!! ()*(&^&^&

E0TA-AC8 = E0TZ-5310-A .. The code for this front spring is A.

Someone not only added a leaf, but changed the front springs as well, because the code doesn't match.

Do you want to me give you what the 7 & 3 spring codes decode to?

I can after 3PM PST...I have to run a few errands.

These are the same part numbers I posted above in Post #7.

7 = E0TZ-5310-S .. Front Spring ~ 2 leaf ~ 3802 lbs. Average Capacity

3 = E3TZ-5560-R .. Rear Spring ~ 8 leaf * ~ 2644 lbs. Average Capacity

* E3TZ-5560-R replaced E0TZ-5560-A which the parts catalog says had 8 leafs. There's no listing on how many leafs E3TZ-5560-R has.
