I have installed a Crimestopper remote start in my 99 F250 Superduty diesel about 4 months back. It has worked fine right through the winter. Last week I replaced a battery on my truck (It uses 2 batteries), and also had to jumpstart the truck.
Since then, the remote start will switch on as normal, the parking lights come on as they should, and it starts cranking after the glowplugs are warmed up, but it stops cranking after a few seconds. It will then re-attempt a restart but repeats the same. It is like it stops cranking before it gets a run signal from the truck.
I have reprogrammed the remote this morning, to make sure it is in Tach Monitor mode, waiting on a running signal, but still does the same.
Has anyone with remote starters ever experienced symptoms like this.
Just like with any other technology, after having had a remote start for some time, it feels as if I cannot be without it......
I have a Python alarm/remote start and I've never experienced any of your symptoms. I have replaced both batteries since I bought it, and no probs. Sounds like an issue with the Crimestopper. Not sure why the battery change would affect it? Did the connector make contact with something and possibly ground out?
No, did not short anything. Checked the fuses from the ignition, they are all OK.
I also sent a note to their Tech support. Will see what they have to say.
Couple things. If you only replaced one battery then your old one is sucking down the new one you just put in. You should replace both batteries at the same time. This could be your problem, not enough cranking amps, or takes lil longer to turn over than it did before your battery issues.
Second, it sounds like the remote start is function properly, it's just not cranking long enough for the motor to fire. The diesel remote starts are programmable. The WTS and the crank time should be customizeable. Look at the manual or talk to the shop who installed it. After addressing your batteries, and making sure both are full charged, ask the shop if they can adjust the remote start so it cranks a second longer.
Yes, they think I have lost my tach source, and asked me to reprogram the tach source. I did that, but it did not help. They said they do not think anything is wrong with the unit.
I guess I could also program it as timed crank mode, but I would prefer to use the tach source to stop cranking when the motor has started.
I was out of town all weekend, so will check the wiring when I get a chance.
What happens when you manualy crank it. If you have a weak battery, which is very possible by only replacing one, then it will be slow to crank using the key. I will go out on a limb and say you still have battery issues. If you needed jump starting, you had two dead batteries, replacing one is like getting 1/2 of a battery and that ain't enough.
