what all is needed to swap the dana 50 ttb for a d60 solid. what doner vehicals are best suted for this swap. what all needs to be changed? front drive shaft? or maby a offset u joint?? sping pads need to be moved??? what about steering modifications? what all is in this swap? i tryed doing a serch and came up with 1000 unrelated topics. also what are the axel tag codes for the d60 with 4.10's
to swap in a d60 you need the axle (hub to hub, brakes to brakes) all steering linkage (pitnam arm is the same), drive shaft and t-case yoke, track bar and frame bracket, springs (as long as the D60 is from a diesel), u-bolts and lower u-bolt saddle on driverside.
Everything is bolt up once you get the old stuff off. You can use a kingpin d60 from the older trucks as well. Not real sure on years. If you use parts from a F-350 gasser don't use the leaf springs. The diesel 250 and 350 springs are different but you can use the 250 springs with the 60 axle.
Tim, I was told the Pitman arm is different for the D60- anyone know for sure?
the pitman arm doesnt care what axle you run. just have to make sure the tie rod/drag link setup you use has the right taper to it, which it should.
D60 swap is easy if you have all the parts. depending on what year truck you get the brake mounts and lines may be different.
a 79 D60 will not bolt up as the spring pads are wider then the 85-97 D60's. however if the guy is selling it for less than $1000 I would snag it up and sell it to an offroad guy. we are always looking for a good deal on a D60. I have bought several 60's i didnt need, turn around and sell them for profit. its not a lucrative business but it's worth it to me!
billavista over on pirate has a killer D60 article in his tech section if anyone of you are looking for something specific on the D60's
