I recently purchased an 89 f150 with the 351w and was wondering how hard it would be to repair the timing chain. I only have few tools(like ratchets and sockets and stuff, no hoists or inpact guns or anything of that nature). I haven't been able to find any info on repairing it anywhere and really want to be able to use the truck again.
how many miles on this truck???the 88 351w-well mine anyways came with the double roller chain-lasts a long time-if it is the chain no hoist is needed-just hand tools-and most important-harmonic balancer puller-can be rented
i dunno, the odeometer broke at 87k miles(something else i need to fix eventualy). im pretty sure theres more on it then that. What causes them to break? I've never heard of the chain breaking until now.
Also I spoke with the guy i got the truck from and he said the guy he bought it from swapped out the 302 that was in there for the 351w, would this have anything to do with it?
whenever i cant figure something out i usualy come here first cause you guys know your stuff. I know aerostar, but trucks are a different language(esp the f-series).
carburation all the way! The guy i got this truck from was like well i could swap a carb'd 302 but itll cost ya more and i was like eh.. no. Ill just take the carbed 351 and deal with the gas prices lol. Now to go shopping. Night.
