Has anyone painted their black grille inserts to match their truck's color? If so, what paint would you recommend? Also, what prep to the plastic would be involved? I saw a white one on here somewhere, but now I can't find it.
I haven't done it, but I see strokes running around all the time with the grilles painted. Just go to an auto paint place, have them match your paint color and ask for a primer for painting plastic. You can probably buy your paint color from Ford and buy plastic primer elsewhere, if thats easier. For plastics, the primer is pretty important or all the paint will just peel off.
YOu could always spend a little and pick up an 05+ harley edition grille and have it painted for you....(but I think they come painted stock) they are alittle over 200 www.powerstrokeshop.com just email them...
of course you may want to do some triming on the bottom to make it work on your truck...
Looks great Ron - where did you get the plastic mesh?
I checked out Pocket's truck - another great job!
I'm planning on painting mine Sandstone Gold (I think thats what Ford calls it)
I cheated though...... a friend of mine painted the grill for me. I honestly don't know what he did since I wasn't in his garage at the time. He did grab the paint code off my truck and went to Ford for the paint he needed, so it's a perfect match. The only thing I paid for was the paint, and he got some free food and beer out of the deal.

Thanks to all who helped!
If it's the 2001 in your sig it's called harvest gold. The interior and exterior paint codes are on the door jamb sticker.
Take the paint code to any auto parts place and they can order the dupont dupli-color if they don't have it in stock, but most of them do.
Take your time masking off the chrome, it'll come out crappy if the paint runs under the tape. Also avoid the over spray. If it pools up in the corners it will flake off within days and you'll have to touch it up.

IIRC it was Ron who got his mesh from a sewer treatment plant...
