just about every 460 came with a front sump. the only ones that didn't were the 4x4's, vans and 83 and newer pickups that came with rear (center for vans) sump pans.so any passenger car application and 79 and older pickup came with front sump pans. the pickup pans and the cobra jet pans were 6 qt pans compared to the 5 qt for cars.
they are easier to find then the rear sump pans are.

With that said, I guess that i missspoke and truly need a rear sump pan. (cant quite remember, so I will look under there tonight) - my motor was out of a '73 F250 2-wheel drive.
if you need a rear sump, they are pretty easy to find.
Junkyard route - any 83 or newer Ford F250 or F350 with the 460 will have a rear sump. you will also need the pickup tube and the main cap bolt with the stud on it for holding the tube in place. also the oil pumps are different. the rear sump pickup tube enters in a different location than front sump. also look for Vans with the 460, they used more of mid sump design then the trucks.
New - ebay has lots for sale as complete kits with pan, pickup tube, bolt and uaually gaksets. around 150 - 175 complete. also any performance shop that sales Ford Motorsport products can also get these kits for you as they are sold as swap kits for 460's into Fox body cars (Mustang, Thunderbord, etc). also Canton and Milodon makes rear sump pans in a variety of different configurations and sizes. much more money, but usually has baffles built in.
also, maybe check a pan out of a car, as they are usually a little shollower then the truck pans, so they might just clear. of course you will need the corresponding pickup tube for the car pan.
BTW yoiu can buy the rear sump kit from any ford dealer for a later model F250 4x4, comes with the pan, pickup, and dipstick tube as I recall and cost $150 last time I checked. You will need to change the oil pump too though because they use a different pump for the different pans.
