The Mercedes engines used in medium duty trucks is giving the drive-away company I work for fits. Approx 1 in four do not make it to their destination. I was delivering a new (100 mi on OD) Freightliner bucket truck to NY that only made it 130 miles of a 1200 mile trip. The computer shut the truck down as I was travelling down the road. After a 60 mile tow to the Freightliner dealer and 1 rental car later I managed to waste an entire day. There was another bucket truck at the dealer like mine that had also shut down on the road. I waited around at the dealership to see if the mechanic had any luck, but he had his tech manual spread all over the desk and was on the phone to Mercedes, so I didn't think the truck would be repaired any time soon. My company says this is not uncommon with these trucks.
How is that possible that a company puts an engine on the road that has a 25% complete faliure rate? expecially mercedes. This is probably similar to Land Rovers problem with their Range rover - It had a faulty CPU and more then 70% of them would just shut down or never start. Huge recall

Our Mercedes has a 100% success rate.
The irony may be that that beginning with the 2007 emission standard year, the Mercedes Diesel for the North American medium duty market is built in Detroit.
The service manager told me the tech was on the phone with Detroit. I know that Daimler owns Detroit and Mercedes. But the Detroit Series 60 is an excellent engine. I know a lot of the problems are computer related. We had one new Freightliner that took four tries to get it delivered, four tows to two different dealers.
