I'm getting ready to install my Oil bypass, coolant filter kit and transmission filter kit that I pieced together using Donaldson filter products. My question is can i mount the filter horozontialy or does it have to be mounted verticialy or does it matter ? I've seen other horozontialy mounted, but i think I read some where that they are more effiecent verticialy.
If you can, design brackets out of two "C shaped pieces of metal, each flat part of the C with holes for the filter flange and chassis, and on each ear drill matching holes so you can flip the filter up for clearance but swing it down when you need to change. I run an oil guard that is designed to be run in any position, and it's just a little higher than horizontal under my seat outside of the framerail.
Mine is jus tlike Kris', and the ability to flip the mounting position is a really good feature to have because it gets the filte rbody out of the way of flying road shrapnel and at the same time is easy to change without spills by just flipping it back down.
thanks for the replies. I really wanted to mount them horzontialy, for protection. As far as the mess, i don't really mind it, i mean when you loosen the filter it runs down the side anyway . I just place a drain an under it.
I don't mind sharing at all , we all share good info when ever possible . i did the same thing as Springerpop on the oil bypass , except I used Donaldson filters. I get fleet pricing on Donaldson and Fleet Guard where i work, the Coolant Filter is a Baldwin CFB5000 base , w/ the Donaldson coolant filter ( non SCA) , my trans filter, is a Donaldson base w/ 25 psi bypass, w/ Donaldson hyd. filter. I'll have the Filter #'s later next week, my Truck Supply delivers on Wensday. Like i said i thought i had read it some where that the Oil bypass needed to be vertical. I remember on my old '98 F150 4x4 the oil filter was located under the frt bumper mounted horozontialy . So thanks for the info.
