im getting my head gaskets done and i talked to the shop today and they are quoting 40 hours of labor - lifting the cab and everything. is this correct or too high? out of warranty too. thanks
he lowered the labor per hour in the first place - about $2400 for labor, $3900 total - how does this sound? how much are the parts? - i bought arp studs before the install
messed up the figures in my orignal post. talked to the service writer again and hes going to call me back. the problem is this is the most competent dealer in the area and the only one i feel comfortable with my truck unless there is a better one but its probably all tore down my now. this is what hes saying:
$75/hour - 40 hours - $3000 (instead of $84/hour)
total estimate was $3900 and change - where are $900 in parts coming from? hes going to call me back with details later.
what is needed for this repair if i already have arp studs? how much $ - just $95 gaskets for both sides and possible machining cost if the head is warped. is there anything else?
. . . yes ford trucks dealer - original guy i talked to said something about $1700 in labor on the phone before i brought the truck in as a guess
Only thing I can think is their charging extra incase of head replacement or machining.. Even that needs to be stated as additional coverage if needed..
I charge 20 hrs.. Half time it doesnt even take that long.. Pulling the cab isn't too difficult.. Long as you dont have a mess of aftermarket pieces going through the cab to the engine area.. Pretty quick process.. Couple hours to disconnect everything and lift up the cab..
i just have gauge wires and a couple power wires all going through on the driver's side firewall around the same place. not too hard to disconnect at the battery.

Are you sure that they are machining the heads? Some dealerships just replace them, some don't but some do without dealing with a machine shop in the first place. That dealership price is still pretty high, even considering your having it done by a dealership.
