I'm still looking for the perfect truck for the right price. I found a '01 F.250 XL 4x4 off-road with 170,000 miles and the 7.3L diesel. it was owned by the gas company, and was mechanically maintained very well. it had tool boxes in it and wasn't ever used to pull. It has the vinyl floor and the manual 4x4 shifter. I like it. my only concern is how plain it looks. it is as plain as it can be. power nothing, black grill, bumpers, and light housings. It has XLT seats though, so the interior isn't bad. they only want $13,000, and i was wanting to find out first of all, how much would a new chrome front clip, back bumper, and towing mirrors cost? I also wondered how new of a front clip i could put on it without having to change the quarterpanels for the headlights. If i could I want to put the '06-'07 front end on it and eventually an '08 tailgate. I also will need chrome wheels, but I'm guessing aftermarket ones will probably be the best bet, because new stock ones are EXPENSIVE. anyway, if you guys know where i could find this stuff, it would be great. If it is cost effective, i will probably try to get this one and change the stuff out.
seems a little high for an XL w/ that kind of mileage. I sold my XLT grille & headlights for $150. If you do all the work yourself, it won't cost too much to make the exterior look like an XLT. OEM tow mirrors are pricey, and you will want those. Aftermarkets vibrate like crazy. Set of rims will run $200-$300 depending. fleabay will be your friend for a lot stuff.
I would hit them at $10,000 and deal from there, maybe even less. 13 just seems way too top dollar for it, even by book values.
Before you seriously consider a truck, get the VIN and have an OASIS report done. You can post the VIN here and one of the guys will pull a report for you.
An OASIS report will tell you all dealer provided maintenance to the truck. This is an important way to see trends that have occured with the truck.
thanks guys. i'll call him and get the vin asap. i was thinking i'd offer him $9000 and work my way up from there. i can't realy see paying more than like 10,500 for suck a plain truck with that milage, but since it was owned by the gas company, i would assume it's probably had pretty good maintainance and frequent oil changes etc. how hard would it be to do power windows and locks? would i just be better off waiting to find an XLT?
alright guys, here's one for ya. I found a Black '02 f.250 7.3psd 4x4 off-road with 126,000 on it for 12,000. it is a special edition with the black leather/painted bumper, and grill. it was wrecked in the front, and fixed, so it has a rebuild title. I don't know much about how this all works. when he fixed it, he put the '05 style lights in it. it also has the carbon fiber inlays in the doors. It everything i've been wanting, and for a great price, but i just dont know how the whole rebuild title thing works. i am going to ask him how it was wrecked, why he's selling it, etc. to see whats up, but if this is as good of a deal as it seams like, then i might just have to go for it. it already has a high-flow exhaust, and a K&N intake.
Both of my trucks are rebuilts,02 f150..99 superduty.I purchased them wrecked and had them fixed.if they are repaired right you will have no problem.Sad part about it though In Kentucky we still have to pay property tax on the full book value of the vehicle, while the resale value for a rebuilt is about 30-40% less..The quickest way to find out well a wreck has been repaired is to take it to an aligment shop. Some wrecks that are half A%^$ repaired are almost impossible to align. And quality aligment shop should be able to find this out quickly..
Also stay away from any vehicle that has water damage. In my business I,ve seen more problems out of these type of vehicles that most anyone can afford to fix..
i have a set of the stock xlt wheels from a 2000. check my gallery, they are just sitting in my garage. they are the aluminum wheels with the round holes.
