hey guys I havent been posting for a while but i have a question what are the best ways to get better milage on a 3.0L 06 fored ranger sport. i have alrady cut off the air hat and stuck on a cone filter
A light foot and slow down. You can also use synthetic fluids in the rear end, transmission and transfer case. A good tune up helps as well. You could also invest in an e-fan conversion.

Run name brand gasoline. There isn't any telling what kind of gas your burning from some of those no brand stations. That's also where you pick up water in the tank.
well A i only us brand name gas and B the maf was a prolblem in my other car but i can see howur right because that was a stock maf in a forced air upgraded car.... that thing burnd so rich until i got a new maf and i was thinking it could be something like that seeing as i am not using the standard air box, i just cut that off and put on a reusable cone
Yeah, engine w/o cat and with perfomance exhaust runs better and has more milage...
A modern fuel injected engine without a cat can loose up to 2 mpg. Run a good catback system or even just a good muffler and you will notice an improvement. Use synthetic fluids.
An electric fan in my opinion is a terrible suggestion. I know a few people who have tried that, and getting them just right is hard. On a V6 ranger, it will only free up about 1/3 hp, so the difference is almost unmeasureable.
Those cone filters can temporarily increase power, but should have no effect on economy unless the old filter was plugged. The oil coated filters tend to foul up the MAF, which actually penalized performance and economy. You also just did away with your factory cold air intake. The factory design would pull in cold air from outside the vehicle, while a cone just slapped on, pulls in warm air from under the hood. You have to have some kind of box or air director to pick up the outside air and guide it into the filter.
If you want to maximize fuel economy, tune up the engine with OEM plugs and wires, replace the O2 sensor, and get a good catback. Synthetic fluids from Redline, Royal Purple, Amsoil, or even Mobil1 can maximize performance and economy. If you run the Cone filter, keep the MAF clean. If you got the AFEProdry, which in my opinion is probably one of the best reusable filters, you don't have to worry about oiling or cleaning the MAF, the ProDry has a much higher filtering efficiency and you wash it with water and air dry it. Thats it.
ok well also i have a borla muffler just sitting at my house should i just take the stock muffler off from the flannge behind the 3rd cat and mount it up in the stock location
