[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Oct-02 AT 02:07 PM (EST)]i am turning my 351m into a 400. i keep hearing you can use 351c pistons in it. would i have to bore the engine to fit in the 351c pistons. and witch one would be better to use the 351c or 400 pistons? i plan on having a torque engine when i am done.

if you find 4oo pistons that give the right compression ratio, then there's no reason to look any further. the 351C's have smaller diameter piston pins, so if you DO end up using 351C pistons, you'll need to get bushings pressed into the rods and honed to size for floating piston pins. the pins will need to be shortened & the pistons may also need grooves cut to install locks.
You can get flat top 400 pistons at any machine shop from Ertel, Badger, or Ohio Piston. The Ertel # is 1282P. The thing that wakes up a 400 more than anything is upping the compression to ~9.0:1 which the flat top will do.
