Strobe Light Loction Question

I've acquired a set of hideaways for my 99 F250SD. I was planning on putting them in the headlights and in the reverse lights.

I searched the posts to see what other people were doing and read something about not installing them over the headlight or light bulb or something to that effect. It was a few weeks back that I did this search and I can't find the thread again.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is it referring to not locating the strobe higher than the headlight assembly itself or is it suggesting that it shouldn't be higher than the actual bulb inside the headlight assembly?

I'm going to run just 4 for the hideaways, but I've got enough equipment/supplies to run 8. Any thoughts on doing this and where ya'll would put them?

Thanks!

I have the 6 light kit on mine. I did a set for the reverse lights a set for the corner markers and a set for the headlights. I tried to find as open as a space as I could in the housings. The strobes get hot and can melt the plastic. I think the instructions say at least 1" clearance from other lights.

I installed mine on the same elevation and plane as the light between the lamp and the outside of the lense, away from the center of the truck. I have never had a problem with melting the plastic and wonder what wattage some one was using that would melt plastic. I have used the Whelen with the rubber bases that "Plug in" and I have used the sound off with the two screws. 90 watts is the largest size I have ever run. One in each headlight, one in each reverse light, and one in each rear lense, total of six is the largest number I have ever run. Some one had tried installing two in the third brake light fixture over the back window, and due to the compact size of the lense, did melt the plastic.

I have been cautioned by the Star Signal rep about superduty tail lights being cramped, and the head lights having two layers (an outer skin that should be drilled larger and the reflector skin that should be drilled to the correct size.)

Other than that, I haven't heard any negatives and if a set fell in my lap, I would do them. I want to put them in the top of the headlight housing, in the corner lights and I haven't picked where in the back.

i mount the front strobes in the blinker housings instead of the headlight housings, cause with the headlights on, the strobes are barely visible if at all visable. in the rear i use either the reverse light sockets and remount reverse lights under the bumper, or just put them in the brake lights.
