I bought my 65 from my grandpa. He was the original owner and I rode around alot with him when I was younger in that truck. I never want to sell it and I want to keep it as original as possible. With those goals in mind I have been saving my money and planning on getting the seat recovered. It's finally done. Here is a before and after picture. I had the seat frame and springs powdercoated black. I got the upholstery from SMS Interiors. They did the lightning bolt/gear emblem on the seat back and everything. I had a local shop sew up the seat covers and install them. I'm really happy with the results. Now I just have to work on getting the rest of the pickup up to this level so it doesn't look so out of place.
Amazing result's; tell your upholstery shop for us. I wish I've took the time and effort to do the same to my 65 model. I did have a Ford oval sewn into my seat back in the center of my aftermarket made in Tawian seat cover. It atleast mine matches my bedliner.
Great work and keep it coming...
Instig8r63- I'm embarrassed to even say how much it cost. Way more than I planned. It's going to have to be my birthday/christmas present for another year I think. When everyone saw how perfect I wanted it, everyone went over there estimate. Also, it didn't help that foam prices have went up 70% since the estimate was made. It broke down like this:
$175 for sandblasting/powdercoating
$315 for the uphostery material
$300 for foam and uphostery labor @ Tim's Top Shop in Albany, OR (They did a great job, if you are local, go there.)
Like I said, EXPENSIVE. But I don't plan on ever selling this truck because it was my grandpa's. Kinda like a big family heirloom. ;-)
Thanks for the compliments from both of you.... If you saw the truck it's sitting in, you would laugh. Step by step though, right?
Its looks incredible ! If you restore the rest of the truck in the same manner, you will have a peach for sure. I think the amount that you spent was pretty reasonable. Go the Ford store and price a new bench seat for a later model truck. You would be shocked.

Hell, if you're happy with it that's all that matters!
People have laughed at me for money I've spent on my trucks. I don't care; it's what I want to spend my money on.
Now you've got something to aim at, make the rest of the truck as nice as that seat turned out.
I think you have done the right thing, It looks incredible. I am very glad to see it as I am getting ready to do mine. It looks about lke yours did. As far as spending money goes i just had my plastic Instrument Bezel rechromed and it was expensive not as much as your seat but it looks good and was well worth the money.
Happy birthday !!!! Amazing attention to details. Your incredible results motivates me to stop agonizing so much about estimates. It will take longer but definitely worth it. Your grandpa is proud of you.
Wow! looks Great! I need the same color for my Merc. Do you have the stock numbers, etc for the material? Was debating wether to spend the $$ on redoing the seat that original, but after seeing yours, it has become a "necessary" expense...well, at least that's what I'm telling the wife....
