I use American Family, the same insurance I have on my daily drivers. They have special collector vehicle insurance. I made if very clear to my agent that my trucks are not a trailer queens and I intend to drive them whenever the weather allows and he said there were no restrictions. I had to get the truck appraised and I have them insured for replacement value.
I know a lot of people tell me American Family is expensive but I haven't been able to find any one cheaper. I have an excellent driving record (knock on wood) so that may play a part in my low rates, I've had them for 30 years, since the day I started to drive. I have had to make a few claims over the years and they have always been more than fair, and quick.
Very odd, I have had American Fam for 24 years on home and 6 cars plus a million dollar umbrella, but have been told twice that they will not insure my 56 or my 63 ragtop as it is not in the rating system. I had Hagerty for 2 years on my 50 Belair and the 56, but found out State Farm was lower cost, less restrictions and did not want me to change all my other policies with AF. I wonder what the deal is in Colorado??

Whenever weather allows. Which up here is about 2 months out of the year.
Yes, on my street rod and my 53F100. Had them for years, never had a claim but those that have ,that I know, have been satisfied. I have seen where some on here use State Farm but when I had them do a quote [they have my house and two newer vehicles] they could not get close to Sneed, Robinson and Gerber.
Insurance is a strange animal, I think, but don't know for sure, that insurance companies can/will do different coverage in different states. Gavin, maybe that's why you couldn't get the AF coverage but I can here in WI.
I have everything covered by AF, including the farm we live on. AF just recently started covering farms in this area, maybe about three years. Twenty years ago, when we got married and moved onto the farm, AF wouldn't cover us so maybe you could check with your agent again if it's been a while since you talked to him about your truck.
I know the policy I have on my trucks is less restrictive than the insurance policies offered by the classic car insurance companies. Like I said above, I told my agent I was going to drive my trucks whenever, wherever possible, even to and for work. I told him I was going letter them and use them for occational deliveries for my business because they tend to draw a lot of attention.
I have Grundy. Rates are good, but I have never had a claim to know how they pay up if a tragedy happens
I also have Grundy. I have full coverage for about $70 a year with no mileage restriction. You have to own a second vehicle and send them pictures of your truck.
I called grundy and was tol 3500 miles a year and only for car club showes or like, I went with allstate and hope I never need yhem. The last issue of skined knuckles {FEB} had a good article on insurance and if you are really covered. If you can find it you will be supprised on what the insurance companys say they cover.
Grundy with no mileage restrictions. But, I must have a primary vehicle insured by others for normal daily activities.
My buddy put in a claim to Grundy. He had his 31 Ford hotrod up on four jack stands. After the work was complete, he was letting it down with the jack under the pumpkin . Unfortunately, the jack stand slipped off of the front frame. It mangled his fender. He called Grundy and explained the bone-head thing that he had just done. They agreed to the claim and paid him what he thought it would take for him to do the body work and then have it repainted! Jag
That is pretty good claim service for sure. I don't know if I could have even filed on that myself. A couple of years ago or so I planned on changing to Grundy since my 53 was up for renewel. I called them and discussed it, they sent forms, but when I received them the milage limit they said didn't apply was plainly stated as part of coverage. I decided to stay with Sneed where I have no milage limit. It seems as if the story is always the same no matter what site it is being discussed on, there does not seem to be an across the board sameness to insurance coverage.
As I stated above, I think insurance coverage may differ from state to state. With the varity of people on this board I hope someone in the insurance industry would pope in and verify this. 51panelman was a claims adjuster but I haven't seen any posts from him in a while. Hopefully he'll jump in.
Well, I heard back from my agent this morn and he reminded me that AF does not have the mechanism in place to sell certain types of insurance in Colorado. As for my 56' it is due to the age, they would however , insure the 63' ragtop. It turns out many companies are not allowed to sell insurance in this state. Others are allowed to sell only certain type of financial products but not insurance. I still like what I have overalll and will stay with both.
