the leak is under the hpop

O.K. here is another oil leak problem. I have read just about every leak problem in this site and have checked hp lines all bone dry. Removed ipr cleaned and put on new o-ring no leak there. There is no leak at the none removable plug or the plug on the rear of the hpop. There seems to be no visible signs of oil leaking accept for the puddle of oil under the hpop.
And it is not diesel fuel, changed the o-rings there 6 months ago and the valve is dry.
Any other suggestions before I take hpop off, probable in a couple of weeks when I am out of work.
Any input would be greatly appricated and this is a great site.

I replaced the o-ring in the turbo pedestal last month when I fixed the leak in the ebv.

My HPOP turned out to be cracked and was leaking. Had to replace it. I hope yours is just leaking from somewhere. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

I have heard that cracked pump housings are ocurring in 2002 models. They crack at the bottom of the pump near where it mates to the reservoir.

Another remote possibility is the gasket between the reservoir and pump is leaking.

Gee, thanks for the wonderful news on the 02's. Any idea of what type of crack we could be talking about? Is it the kind of mirror & flashlight with the motor running kind of crack? Or the pull it apart to find it type?

Mine is an early 99. Almost everything I look at is for 99.5 and up.

I couldn't tell you about the crack. The Ford tech found it after I had chased the leak around for days. All I know is it was on the back side spraying oil towards the rear of the engine. I would think that is was visable because he found it rather quickly. it couldn't hurt to check it with the mirror and flashlight. I would spray the area down well with Simple Green, let it soak for a few minutes, then hose it off well. let it dry then check it while running the engine. This involves you practicly sitting on top of the engine, with the fuel bowl cover off of course, looking around for a while. Take your time and don't get to frusterated with it like I did...

I believe the cracks were in the threads, of the holes, for the hpop plugs and fittings. Replacing O-rings would not cure the leaks. Ford was offering new hpop's in a reman box, at one time, for a lack of rebuildable cores. This was a couple of years ago. Found this out when visiting the shop where I used to work.

Well the leak turned out to be the do not remove plug on the bottom. When I pulled the hpop I tried a socket on it before heating it and it unscrewed really easy. I put on a new viton o-ring some loctite and tightend it up so I hope it doesn't leak.
When I took of the fuel lines there seemed to be some worn out rubber on them is this an o-ring or something not to worry about?

LVF7018----- How did your repair on the "do not remove oil plug" go does it still leak oil I have the same problem after looking under my hpop with a mirror and flash light and the oring is squezing out from the plug. I have been told that it cannot come out and I would need a new hpop at the cost of 700.00 plus labor.

I've driven several thousand miles since my repair. Be sure to thoroughly clean the threads before re-installing the plug. Use green Loc-Tite.
