How long does this trans usually last before it fails and a rebuild is required? I am coming from the horrible GM 4L60E that fails generally after 50k everytime.
I am hoping this Ford unit is much much better, however I have had 3 friends with F-250s loose there trans in the last month with around 150k on each.
The 4r75e is a Crown Vic transmission they adapted to the F150s.
In short, it isnt longed for the world if you thrash it. I thrashed mine and it was smoked @ 24,000 miles.
The unit now has a billet 11" converter, FTVB Calibration kit, Spiral Clip upgrade, Hi-Energy Carbon Overdrive Band, Hi-Energy Clutches, Deep Pan for additional fluid and cooling.
The unitworks extremely well now. However, it only has 100-200 miles (ALL HARD) on it after the rebuild.
it all depends on how you drive it and if you do your maintence. i have seen people go over 200k.
yep, Ford IMO makes a pretty decent transmission. I've had good luck with all the automatics anyways. 2nd gears sucks in the 5 speeds though.
my Bronco had 283,000 miles on the original trans...O/D was starting to slip, but overall the trans was amazing at that mileage. I had 2 other F-150's with 120,000 and 150,000 on their original auto trannys as well

I wouldn't worry about your trans. veronese1 is running a s/c truck making serious power. your 4.6 won't hurt the transmission unless you do something stupid. btw, I remember you tow a tow trailer occasionally, right? might want to get a trans cooler if you don't have one
sorry, I thought you had the 4.6....then most likely you do have a trans cooler. look behind the bumper. the a/c condenser will be directly in front of the radiator, but then there will be this little shoe-box sized radiator for the trans.
I haven't looked at mine lately, so I can't exactly remember where she is
