I have a 97 single rear wheel 350. I want to be able to dump my bed so that I don;t have to shovel twice. I have looked at the kits to turn the existing bed into a dump but I see a few draw backs with that system (ie fuel filler necks, rear bumper, the shape of the bed inside).
my other thought was to put a flatbed in place of the factory bed and make that dump. a flat bed would also give more useable space. What so you guys think?
I installed one of those kits for the local Cemetary about 9 years ago. Decent kits. not sure on cost. I just did the install. had to cut the very end of the frame, renders the bumper usless and not even sure you can run a receiver hitch with it. I would buy a dump trailer. Those are really nice!!
I have installed the dump kits from Northern before they were quite nice, not a monster dump truck but a nice system. not too bad to install. bumper is relocated to the dump rails with the bed. any receiver would have to be a drop down under the bumper.
Why not get a dump insert? That way you can take it from truck to truck. Granted, it does lower how much you can carry, but if that is an issue you should call a single or tandem axle truck
Downeaster makes some solid inserts. If I hadn't bought my dump, I was going to get an insert.
