Hi Everyone,
I have a 1989 F150 300-6 2WD pick up truck. A few days ago I found I had a hi-temp problem and with help here on the board, traced it to a bad thermostat and fan clutch. Truck running cool no problems. Life is good.
I notice my engine is a little dirty so while its cold I shoot some degreaser on it and wash down with a water hose. I've done this for years,no problem. After I finish I crank the truck up let it run and everything is dry. This afternoon I get in to start truck and it turns over a couple of times and then abruptly stops! Where it would normally kick of and start it just stops dead. Well maybe something is froze up,so I take off serpentine belt and everything is free and turning like it should. I guess if it was the computer there would not be nothing! Timing? I don't know? If anyone has any ideas on this I would be happy to listen!!! Thanks!
Hi BigBlock,
The starter seems to be working fine it turns the motor over no problem. It seems though after it rolls over three or four times the engine and starter stops abruptly and then you have to crank again. Where the engine usually starts it all of a sudden stops. I don't see any water in the oil on the dipstick,I'm just checking everything I can think of but don't physicly see any problem. Never had this before! Thanks for the help!
It kinda sounds like you may have some water in the distributor. Spark fireing on the wrong cylinder and causing the engine to lock up when starting. Pop the cap and take a look. WD-40 is a wonderful thing.
Hi Animal,
Well you are da man! I have washed my engine spaces for 30 years and never had this problem and always heard you can get water in the distributor but never really believed it from my experience, but you nailed it. The inside of the cap was soaking wet! Cleaned her up and she started right up! Thank you very much, you've got to love this site!
