Rusty + Rusty = Trusty

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">Hey Everyone Im New Here, Just Picked Up A '69 Shortbed, And Of Course The Inner Fenders, Core Support, Cab Mounts, And Floor Boards Are Gone, I Know Some Of You Recommend Just Finding A Better Cab, But I Want To Know If I Can Fix This One, I Work In An Auto (mechanic) Shop, I Went To Wyotech For Body Work, I Have A Welder, Lifts, And Many Tools Available, I Also Have Access To A 77 F150 With Ok Cab Mounts (but No Floors) And I Have Already Salvaged The Inner Fenders And Core Support Off Of The 77 For My 69, My Question Is, Should I Just Torch Like A Few Inches Around The Mounts On The 77, And Then Cut A Similar Amount Off The 69 And Weld 'em In, And Then Wait For My Floor Pans To Come In The Mail? The Previous Owner Has Some 1" Rubber Mat Between The Frame And Cab, Should I Also Try To Utilize This? Or Is It Not Needed?, Do I Really Have To Weld In A Bunch Of Cross Braces Before I Remove The Mounts From The 69 ( Because The Mounts Are Totally Gone Right Now, And I Worry About Bracing It And It Not Being Square Initially), Also Should I Use The New Cab Mount Bushings And Hardware And Bolt On The 77 Mounts And Then Lower The Cab Down To The Right Level (whats The Right Level?) And Then Weld Em On, I Know Ive Rambled But Im Not Rich And This Cab Mount Thing Is The Only Thing Holding Me Up From Driving My 69 Shorty, Any Advise Would Be Very Helpful Thank You.( SORRY FOR THE REPEAT POST, I JUST NEED TO KNOW TODAY BECAUSE THE PARTS TRUCK I WANT TO GET THESE MOUNTS OFF, GOES TO THE CRUSHER TODAY!)

Anything is fixable, it all depends on how much work you want to do.

Sounds like the previous owner used the 1" rubber mat to support the cab since the mounts were gone. Once you put new mounts in, the rubbermat can be removed.

As for height needed, you just have to line up the bodylines from bed to cab. Best way I suppose is level the bed, then build cab to match. Use the rocker panel as a place to check for level. This will make lining up the front fenders much easier. If the cab is low in the front, the fenders won't line up no matter what.

Welcome to FTE.

Since you have the tools and space to do such work. If the '77 is also a shorty, consider swapping it's frame under your '69. You'll get disc brakes and a better ride, IMO. The gas tank is outa the cab. You will however have to redrill the bed to bolt to the frame. The cab is a direct fit.

69 shorty

Thanks for the replies and sorry about the CAPS! its not about being lazy, I just work at an auto shop and the boss wants us to use caps on our estimates and such (he thinks it makes it easier to read?) and since I am at work I just forgot to switch it over.
The 77 is a long bed, but the same guy has a 76 2wd im thinking about getting the front brakes from.
So I should get the bed true and then align the cab to that and work my way forward?
thanks
