Whining noise

I have a 1987 f-150, there is a whining noise that i cannot figure out,
it is coming from the drivers side behind the drivers door underneath, just wondering if anyone had ran into this problem before. thanks for any replies. I should also say that it does it when in and out of park

My power steering pump makes a whining noise but it still works so I'm leaving it alone.

Hi Banjo,
hope you haven't given up on your '66!
Sometimes my wife whines when I'm driving -- and it can be high pitched

I think you might be on to something with the fuel selector switch/valve. If there were an airpocket or pinhole, it might make some kind of noise.

I pulled front tank and replaced pump and the noise is still there, but now i can make it stop by flipping the switch on the dash down and back up, noise stops until i cut it off and restart, looked for a cr**y man but he must have slipped away
ANY IDEAS

I'm kind of guessing here, but maybe it's the switch? When you toggle it, you can get the noise to stop. But if I understand you, when you you turn the key off and back on, the noise comes back? Maybe the default position for the switch it trying to switch to the forward tank?

I wonder if you set the switch to the rear-tank...then disconnect the switch...does the noise go away?
