Hey guys, I have a pretty loud rubbing noise coming from my rear differential. Its not the brakes. Its been like this for about 4-5 days and im taking it in today. What can this be? i dont want to get raked over the coals!
Some info - Doesnt effect performance at any level (accelerating, stoping, 4x4, shifting, trans)
I cant help you with the rubbing noise, but look at the steel tab on the Diff. You should be able to look it up from the number on that tag. I normally cheat and call the local gear house and ask.

By the way, were do you plan on going, I would recomend DTS over here on Grosebeck and 696
Thats right down the road- Im taking it to a guy i know locally west of pontiac. Safety Auto. Hes very honest and says hes good with diesels and knows differentials. He has done stuff for me in the past. Ill call DTS - See what they have to say. They are a real trans shop so they are probably a bit better. Thanks!
U Joints are good. May be the bearings! Well since i purchased the truck used, the last time the fluid was changed was more then 15,000 Miles...So basically i dont know.
No leaks at all - nothing on the driveway or where i park my vehicle.
You might try checking the emergency brakes. You did say it is not brake related but I was thinking emergency brakes might be draging on the inside of the rotor.
