I have some groaning noise in the left front hub(I think) of my '06 F350 in 4WD. Since I have the "dreaded" electronic shift on the fly am looking for a good write up with drawings/pictures along with a parts list of the differential as well as the hub. I don't want to go digging into this until I have a better understanding of what is there nor do I want to ask for help here - yet - until that time.
Maybe it's just a noisy front end compared to the F150's that I've had previously, but need to know.
So, with that said, can someone point me in a direction, hopefully here or an internet site that would have that kind of information.
Sounds like your hub is in serious need of lubrication (if it isn't too late).
One easy way to tell is to lock your hubs manually and see if they still make noises.
Thanks
This is exactly why I'm looking for pictures, drawings and the like - as I really
don't like digging into something that I have little knowledge. If it's too late - then I guess my wallet will take a big hit. Dang!!!
Thanks Monster. At least it gives me a good idea of what's involved. I do know that the F350 had a total change in front diff in '05 so some of the parts might have a different number, but the process should be about the same - oh my achin' back!!
Same differential. The 05 and up F-250s and F-350s have a different suspension system, using coil springs out front instead of leaf springs. It gave the newer trucks a tighter turning radius and (per Ford) a smoother ride. (That's debatable).
The bad parts is no one (that I know of yet) is making aftermarket hubs for the 05+ Super Duty trucks. If you fried a hub, a Ford OEM hub is your only choice for replacement. I'd love to be able to slip a set of Warn gold hubs in place of the OEM MSOS hubs, but so far no can do.

S-u-u-u-r-r-e it does. The turning radius is about a football field wide and smoother ride - only if you have a decent aftermarket shock like a Bilstein to replace the "Rancho Branded" junk. I did my shocks at ~40K. Out of 4 OEMs, only one didn't collapse under it's own weight by gravity. Still smooth - but the truck only has about 43K on it
